Hanbok Rental in Seoul: How to Book (2026 Prices)
How to book a hanbok rental near Gyeongbokgung as a visitor: real 2026 prices from about ₩7,000, free palace entry rules, what's included and the Korean to use.

Walking around Gyeongbokgung in a hanbok (한복, the traditional Korean dress) is one of those Seoul things that sounds touristy and turns out to be a lot of fun. The rental shops are lined up around the palace, and most of them now take bookings in English.
The prices on booking sites start lower than you'd think, but the cheapest listing isn't always the best deal. I went through the listings on November 4, 2026. Here's what I found and how to choose.
Why rent near Gyeongbokgung?
Two reasons. First, the palace is right there, so you change and walk straight in. Second, visitors wearing hanbok get in free to Gyeongbokgung, which is normally ₩3,000. (Girl on a Zebra)
Two things to know:
- Not every outfit counts. Guides say very short skirts, revealing outfits or modified "fusion" hanbok may not qualify for free entry. Classic styles are the safe choice.
- The palace is closed on Tuesdays. Don't book a Tuesday rental if the palace is the point.
Check the official Royal Palaces site before you go, since rules and closures can change.
How to book a hanbok rental
- An English booking site is the easiest. Klook lists dozens of hanbok shops near Gyeongbokgung with English pages, foreign card payment, and in many cases free cancellation.
- Walk in. Many shops take walk-ins, but weekends and holidays get busy, and the nicest hanbok go first.
- The shop's Instagram or KakaoTalk, if a shop you like isn't on a booking site.

What to check before you book
- How long you get it. Rentals are sold by the hour block. Two hours goes fast once you add the palace and photos.
- Hairstyling. Braids and hair accessories make the photos, and some shops include them. Others charge extra.
- The hanbok grade. The starting price is often for a basic hanbok. Nicer fabrics and designs cost more at the shop.
- Return time and late fees. Ask before you leave the shop.
- Your bag and clothes. Ask whether the shop will keep them while you're out.
